Here is information given at NC district annual mtg, October 5th, 2005,  by speaker Lyn Butus, former state President of Michigan.
 
Recipe for Deer Repellant to save daylilies and hosta.
 
3  1/2 cups blood meal
1 c ammonia
1 + 1/2 gal water
 
Soak Oasis blocks in this.  Cut oasis into fudgecycle (sp?)  size pieces, and place those pieces on bamboo sticks between plants.  It works.

I'm not sure if it was from Nat'l convention or the regional. 
To get gerbera and poppy stems stiff, dissolve 1/2 tsp of cornstarch in a quart of warm water, make a fresh cut in the floppy stems, and condition.  This should keep stems stiff for 10 days.  Viagra for gerberas!
