BALL STATE:

 

Naomi Lewis - is a junior in the field of Landscape Architecture and received the Josephine Jarboe Memorial Scholarship. Naomi is from Charlestown. She wants to join the Peace Corps after graduation and learn about other cultures. Afterward she wants to continue her education for a Masters Degree in Urban Design. Naomi believes if you live each day passionately and with enthusiasm, happiness and success will follow. Her goal is to own her own Landscape Architecture firm in the future.

Kristen Marie Happersberger - is a junior in the field of Landscape Architecture and received the Arbutus Garden Club Scholarship. She has lived in Indianapolis all of her life. She is the oldest of four children and both her parents are in the field of education. Kristen has a minor in German and hopes to live in Germany after graduation and take advantage of learning about German architecture as well as use the language. After living in Germany a few years, she would like to settle in Indiana and use her knowledge that she has learned to benefit the state of Indiana.

Dustin Trahin - is a junior in the field of Landscape Architecture and received one of TGCI, Inc. Scholarships. Dustin is from Fort Wayne. Dustin learned early in his high school years his passion was in design, through his drafting class. His special interest is in urban design. He was selected as lead designer for a project called “Rebuild Bosage”. This project was in Bayou La Batre, Alabama, a town devastated by Hurricane Katrina.

Christopher Patten - is a junior in the field of Landscape Architecture and received a second TGCI, Inc. Scholarship. He is from Indianapolis. He spent last summer in Milano, Italy learning about garden design. In 2004 he won the “Golden Trowel Award” from Garden Design magazine. Chris has volunteered at the Indianapolis Museum of Art (IMA) since 2002. The summer 2004 he worked as a seasonal ground-keeper. He has a minor in Historic Preservation.

Amber Gress - is a junior in the field of Landscape Architecture and received one of TGCI, Inc. Scholarships. Amber is from Jasper. Amber competed in a design competition for the “Shaw Neighborhood” in Washington, DC. and received an honorable mention and in a third place finish. This competition developed in her a stronger love for designing for others. She also was a team member for the construction of a whimsical children’s garden and a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. Her goal is to use design to benefit others.

Brian Harbison - is a graduate student in the field of Landscape Architecture and received one of TGCI, Inc. Scholarships. Brian is from Muncie. In 1982 he graduated from Indiana State University and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Safety Management. Following graduation he was employed by a surface coal mining company in southern Indiana. With the slump in the coal business he was laid off. He took the opportunity to travel and afterwards settled in San Francisco, CA. He volunteered at the “Stybing Arboretum” in the Golden Gate Park and became involved in design and installation of urban gardens. He returned to Gate Park and became involved in design and installation of urban gardens. He returned to Indiana in 1993 and while living in Woodruff Place, an area of Indianapolis, he got involved with the Neighborhood Association and for three years co-chaired the “Urban Planting Committee”. In 2004 he went back to school at Ball State and entered the field of Landscape Architecture. After graduation he would like to work for a firm in a large metropolitan area.

Cecily Nicole Hood - is a junior in the field of Landscape Architecture and received one of TGCI, Inc. Scholarships. Cecily is from Noblesville. Her goal is to increase people’s awareness of their surroundings and to foster their appreciation of natural beauty. She grew up in her family’s greenhouse business and is well qualified to be a greenhouse grower and manager. She is president of the Women’s Club Volleyball Program at Ball State and was a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity.

Kelly Woodward - is a senior in the field of Landscape Architecture and received one of The Vale of Paradise Garden Club scholarships. She is from Gary. In 2005 Kelly took advantage of a foreign study program and traveled abroad to Curitiba, Brazil to learn about the diversity of the people and learning about the possibilities that exist to improve the quality of life in that city. She participated in the “Therapeutic Gardens Business Fellows Project” during her 2004 - 2005 academic year. Her first goal is to become a registered Landscape Architect.

Jeremy Sparrow - is a junior in the field of Landscape Architecture and received the Four Winds Garden Club Scholarship. He is from Crawfordsville. Ever since his sophomore year in high school he has been interested in golf. During that time he had the opportunity to design a golf course in his drafting class and this gave him the opportunity to display his design skills as well as his interest in golf. Jeremy’s goal is to become a registered Landscape Architect and to become a golf course designer.

Michael Wieczorek - is a junior in the field of Landscape Architecture and received one of TGCI, Inc. Scholarships. Michael is from Granger. He would like to become a golf course designer and to create sustainable landscapes that people will not only use today and tomorrow but fifty to one hundred years from now. In the future he would like to have his own design firm and to design golf courses for the Professional Golfers of America Tour.

Ryan Alexander - is a junior in the field of Landscape Architecture and received one of TGCI, Inc. Scholarships. He is from Floyds Knobs. Ryan enjoys the outdoors and believes that Landscape Architecture gives him the opportunity to do new things everyday. He would like to give people the opportunity to enjoy beautiful spaces that are healthy for them and the environment. He says “Nature has given him the tools to work with - it is his responsibility to use those tools well”. His major goal is to either have his own firm or be with a principal design building firm, working on a wide variety of projects from urban renewal to private landscapes to natural restoration.

Leslie Morgan - is a junior in the field of Landscape Architecture and received one of TGCI, Inc. Scholarships. She is from Salem. Leslie would like to create places for people to interact and enjoy nature, as well as a community. She believes that projects that involve redesigning brown-field sites in urban areas are specially satisfying, because you are not only introducing nature but bring about a community as well. Last year she received a summer internship position from CSO Schenkel Shultz Architects in Indianapolis. Her ambition to design spaces that are functional in both the aesthetic and the physical as well as create sustainable landscapes in various sites for different uses.
