Karen Anne Mitchell - is a senior in the field of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture and received The Georgia Mary Honeywell Memorial Scholarship. She is from West Lafayette. Karen has a major in Horticulture Production and Marketing and a minor in Food and Agriculture Business. While a sophomore in high school she founded the Horticultural Society and the club is still going and inspiring teenagers to consider a career in horticulture. Her goal is to be an “Organic Farm” grower. She inherited 60 acres of land in West Point and after graduation she plans to work at a greenhouse while starting her organic farm.

Dear Judy Fornshell,

I would like to thank you for your organization's generous contribution towards my education. I am currently a senior in the Horticulture Department at Purdue University. As Ruth Moorhead had informed you, I have worked full-time while going to school full-time for the past three years. This left little time for anything besides studying. This year, however, I am able to work only 15-20 hours a week and still pay the bills, thanks to the scholarships that I have received.

This means I have time for extra-curricular activities, including: the Horticulture Club, the Outings Club and the Botany Club. And maybe even have some time lift over to relax! Thank You! I feel that I will gain more from my last year here at Purdue University than I have in the past three years just because I have the time to take advantage of all the opportunities that Purdue has to offer. Thank You for this. I hope that I will have the opportunity to repay this generosity in the future.
