State Board Meeting

Central East Director

Madam Vice President,

Plants, picnics and plans seem to be in abundance in our district. Auburn Garden Club did have their successful Strawberry Shortcake sale, had a very profitable plant sale and were asked to do another historic garden. Auburn also planted another tree in honor or Arbor Day. Richmond passed out grocery bags for Earth Day, held their plant sale and also their annual flower show this year at the Richmond Art Museum.

Dig & Hoe has started working on their strip gardens, and Smalltown is so busy it makes my feet hurt. They are having their annual garden tour this week-end, are working on the garden at the community building , planting in the park and having a good time and good food while doing so.

Pendleton had a picnic at the Briar Patch in June, held a very successful plant sale in May, and are having a garden walk this coming week-end. Garden Club of Marion held a picnic in a member’s garden this month and had their garden walk/plant sale last week-end. The Garden Club of Marion has agreed to sponsor a Youth Garden Club at a nearby Jonesboro School where they have planted trees and donated plants.

Creative Garden Club is on the go this summer taking a tour of a garden every month. Creative Hands Garden Club visited a garden in Carmel, went to a nursery and is getting ready for the district flower show in August. Cynthia Wright and myself attended a meeting at Tipton County Goosebean Garden Club to discuss the 501C3 information. This garden club held a hugely successful plant sale in May also.

Our district is holding a flower show in Pendleton this August in conjunction with the Gladiola Society. This is the first district show in several years and it is a big gamble.
Come see our show and view the gorgeous glads on August 2nd.

Our spring district meeting was held in May with a small attendance. However, much was accomplished. The committees were assigned for the 2009 September Seminar, the district flower show plans were finalized, a membership roundtable discussion was held, awards were passed out and a fun time was had by all who attended.

This district has been busy since State convention. This is a small report of large results.
