Prior to 1984 TGCI was sending money and seeds through the Peace Corps to two volunteers in Honduras.  When they returned to the United States, the State Chairman Mary Hoffman was unable to find other Peace Corp volunteers to continue the project.

Henderson Settlement in Frakes, KY was in need of seeds to help in their agricultural program and to give to farmers in the area.  In 1984 we started supporting them with seeds and money, and in 1989 TGCI was awarded the Dean World Gardening Trophy from NCSGC.  We continued supporting Henderson Settlement for several years.

The National Board began expressing an interest in and encouraging support of Habitat for Humanity.  Therefore, in 1999, the State Board decided to use the World Gardening contributions for landscaping of Habitat for Humanity homes.  The money was to g each year to the district hosting the Annual State Convention.

Seeds were still collected and sent to Henderson Settlement.  In 2004 it was decided that any clubs wishing to continue collecting seeds could send them directly to Henderson Settlement rather that through TGCI's State World Gardening Chairman.
