NORTH CENTRAL GARDENER Dear North Central Gardeners, What a wonderful growing season we've had. I can barely believe it's late August. My flowers have put-on a non-stop show and there are "new things" opening every week. Some of my purchases (like the ones on the way home from the Peru celebration) were not marked. I was sure I'd remember what they were, but didn't--so when something new flowers, I take out my books to find out what I have. We hope you are planning on attending the District Annual Meeting. The enclosures will give specific information. Of great interest to me is the opportunity to see the Wellfield Gardens. We've heard about the gardens and I'd certainly like to tour them. Club president and chairmen reports need to be in by Oct 1 so we can compile annual report book. Presidents, we would also like an oral report on your club--limit of 3 minutes. Chairmen, your oral report is limited to 2 minutes. Chairmen may offer a display for the Annual Meeting instead of an oral report. Please let the host club, Four Winds, know a week ahead if you need space for a display. Chairmen, have you spoken with or e-mailed your state chairmen to see if there is new information to be shared with our District? Some State chairmen have an article on the Garden Club of Indiana website. Judy Markham, our NCD Wildflower Chairman, is hoping to hear from your club. She's like to know if you had any wildflower programs, walks, talks, etc.. How about Garden Therapy? Barb Fodroczi is chairman and needs to know if your club does any garden therapy project. Please call or e-mail these chairmen if you have anything to report so they can include the information in their report for the October 14th District Annual Meeting. The Nominating Committee is looking for new slate of officers to present to the group at the Annual Meeting. Please be generous with your time, if you are called. The District Director will have many chairmanships to fill. This is an opportunity to serve the group as well as learn something yourself. Chairmen filter information from the State level down to the individual clubs. The time commitment is not a large one, but the rewards of serving can be tremendous. A question came up at the June Board meeting that concerned the National garden Club website. Joyce Bulington told me that some places on the site are only accessible to board members; however, if there is something you need to know, call her and she'll help you. Did you get your Indiana Gardens? We were all waiting in June for our issue to come. Mine came a few days after the meeting. If your sis no, please let me know so we can get if fixed. Did you reserve a spot for the September Seminar in Anderson, IN? I'm looking forward to the entire program. I've always liked butterflies, but have a renewed interest and think this will be very informative. Remember to look at the state website for information. That is how I found out we are no longer collecting pill bottles for "Doctors without Borders". If you have saved them, please recycle them with your local recycling program. Don't forget the Daffodil project and take pictures, please. We want some information on your Project as well as planting pictures and flowering pictures. We can grow it gold in North Central District!!!!! I still need an awards chairman, and a civic development chairman. I think these positions would offer much information and help to the district clubs. Finally, Presidents, please share this information with your club members. Thank you. Best wishes for a fun Fall moving and dividing those things that have multiplied and been on your mind all Summer. I hope we'll have a chance to meet at the Annual Meeting in October.
Sincerely,
Web Chairman: Joyce Bulington
