WILDFLOWERS WORKSHOP 2008”

The Clubs in North Central District of The Garden Club of Indiana, Inc. invites all members to come north for the "Focus on Native Plants & Wildflowers Workshop, 2008”. It will be held on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at the JF New Native Plant Nursery in Walkerton, IN. This workshop is part of "Operation Wildflower", a project of the NGC, to encourage the use of our native plants along our highways and the protection, propagation and use of wildflowers in our gardens, woods, fields and communities.

The all day workshop will begin at 8:30 AM with registration and morning refreshments of donuts and coffee. Four speakers will present programs throughout the day, with time for Ways & Means, lunch and a walking tour of the JF New Nursery and grounds. Our speakers and their programs are as follows:


 9:30 - 10:15 AM    Wendy Langer, Master Gardener
                              "Why use Native Plants in your Landscape"

10:30 - 11:15 AM   Mark O’Brien, Vice President of JF New Nursery
                               "Native Plants in the Formal Landscape"

11:30 - 12:15 PM                          LUNCH

12:30 - 1:15 PM   Ronda DeCarie, Environmental Education Coordinator
                             with the City of Elkhart "Folklore of Wetland Plants"

1:30 - 2:15 PM   Amal Farrough, A Naturalist for the
                           St. Joseph County Parks "Cooking with Wildflowers"

2:30                    Walking Tour of JF New Nursery and grounds.


Native Plants available for purchase
The workshop is open to any persons with payment of the registration fee. The deadline for registration is September 3, 2008. No refunds will be given after this date. Seating is limited to the first 50 people, so don't delay. It is on a first come, first served basis. The registration fee is $25.00 per person.

Directions: US 31 North, turn west onto St. Rd. 6. Follow St. Rd 6 into Walkerton, turn left onto Virginia Street (which turns into Lawrence St.) follow Lawrence around curve to Nursery.
